6 Weeks in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

I just wrapped up my busy 6-week trip to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. I worked remotely, completed my scuba dive master certification, and had a blast exploring the area and making new friends.

Getting There

The ADO bus system runs to and from the Cancun airport to Playa Del Carmen’s tourist 5th Avenue. It’s only about $10 USD and is extremely comfortable with charging ports.

Where I Stayed

My Airbnb room was located in the Centro Hollywood area of PDC. I couldn’t have been happier with the location. Tons of places to work from and explore. Stable fiber optic 50mgps internet.

Scuba Dive Master Certification

On weekends, I was busy working towards my PADI dive master certification. I used the shop AC Divers in Playa Del Carmen and, despite all the hard work, really enjoyed Aaron and Cazz.

Random

BiciPlaya is the ciudad’s bike rental program and a great way to get around. Register on their app and rent a bike to ride around the town.

My sister, brother-in-law, and myself dove some cenotes: Dos Ojos, Tajmahal, and Garden of Eden.

The beaches were surpurb during my time there in January and Feburary. Very little sargassum.

There are tons of lavanderias around the city that will wash, dry, and fold your laundry for cheap.

It was Carnival week mid/late February and the Playa Del Carmen square came to life. Tons of free concerts and bazaar tiendas.

I found an amazing Zumba class, led by Nahuel, every Tues/Thurs/Saturday. I could not recommend this more. Great music and an intense workout.

There are tons of street dogs around the city that appear to have more traffic sense than many people.

The city is filled with art and personality. “Strength is getting up every morning to make today better than yesterday!”

The XPLOR adventure park was a ton of fun! Some of the terolesas (zip lines) were giving me slight anxiety with how high they were. I’d highly recommend visiting.

Amazing cheap food all over the city, most with great internet for working remotely a few hours. Lots of vegan/vegetarian options. Camucamu was one of my favorites.
